wound strings
Wound strings purchased in bulk from some suppliers come in long plastic bags. The strings are straight as well, rather than coiled, so they can be a real pain to manage and they take up a lot of space if just put into a box or such. Hanging them from clips mounted to a wall solves the space problem and allows for both handy access and easy organization.

zither wire
A simple box like the one shown below keeps the various gauges of zither wire in order. When not in use, the removable 2x4 blocks are put into place and keep the spools stable if the box needs to be moved. The blocks are not fastened in any way but just wedge in snugly. They are removed when the wire is being used.
